Opposition political parties express condolences over the passing of PM Meles
Addis Ababa, August 23 (WIC) -Opposition political parties operating in Ethiopia have expressed their condolences over the passing of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.
The Ethiopian Federal Democratic Unity Forum (MEDREK), the Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDP) and Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD) were among the parties that expressed their condolences on the death of premier.
Tilahun Endeshaw, Chairperson of MEDREK, told WIC that the premier was a matured leader who had worked a lot for the rule of law, democracy and justice in Ethiopia.
PM Meles had also strived a lot for democratic transformation of the country, protection of human right and poverty alleviation. Ethiopia has achieved good economic growth under his leadership, Tilahun added.
Tilahun said his party is ready to work with the new administration on major national issues.
Similarly, Chairperson of EDP, Mushe Semu, said the death of the premier is shocking news for all Ethiopians.
PM Meles has played a key role in creating conducive environment for multiparty system that allowed a number of political parties to take part in Ethiopian politics.
Ayele Chamisso, Chairperson of Coalition for Unity and Democracy, said Ethiopia has witnessed several infrastructural developments under the leadership of PM Meles.
He added that the premier has carried out several poverty alleviation activities
“Meles dedicated his life to the people of Ethiopia since he was only 19 years old. He is one of the greatest leaders of all time,” Ayele said.
Pledging to work jointly with the new administration, Chairpersons of the opposition parties also urged the new administration to continue the democratic processes the development activities launched by PM Meles. source...waltainfo.com
