BBC HardTalk - Alison Evans and Dambisa Moyo Debate
I watched yesterday the show called BBC HardTalk - Alison Evans and Dambisa Moyo
I enjoyed the video, hence here my account or perspective on this matter.
The guests in Hard Talk both Alison Evans and Dameso Moti raise very good points.
The host of the show raise the question the IMF is planning to cut aid by 30%.
...
Ms.Damesia Moto argues that we should stop giving Aid to Africa since it has already received 1 trilion dollars without any succes.
Ms. Alison Evans argues that Aid is a very important tool to help save lives until African government find other alternative.
In my opinion both guest have good point and flaws that I would like to adress.
First, Ms Damessa's plan of immidiate halt to aid not acceptable on my part. She fails to understand that Aid is not only MONEY but life saving medicines. Example some country provide vaccine to the village of the countries which saves lives. I think she needs to adress those issues more in her book. She also seems to focus on long term but she lacks to provide short time solution.
Second Ms.Alison Evans argues that Aid should continue to flow to Africa until a long term is implemented. She has some very good point that Aid is very vital to African countries. I do have a disagreement with Alison, she fails to provide a solution on how to move a way from Aid.
Personally, I think Aid has it's negative and positive effect. But we shouldn't be harsh on the recepient because they are working very hard to move a way from Aid. One Example would be Ethiopia with a population of 85 million is working very hard but the problem is that it's population has increased in double with in 50 years. Ethiopian population was mere 35million at the end of Emperor's rule. It inteased to 50million at the End of Derge's rule. Today it is 85milluon posibly 90milion. So an increase of amost 40 milion new human beings in just 20 years. Notice there are more people born under the age of 20 in 20 years than any time in the entire history of Ethiopia. So Ethiopian population's 50 percent is under 20 years old. This very SCARY and alarming.
So we need to focus on creating our independent way of feeding. We should follow the model of South Korea or China. We need to stay away masking our problems.
As one of the guest stated "we should not do bandage to our problems". I agree with that we need to focus on long term and sustainable approach to our future current and problems!!!!! Thanks
