Dire Dawa — Ethiopian and U.S. personnel gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to dedicate a new schoolhouse and two latrines at the Gende Gerada Primary School here May 22, 2012.
This building project lines up with one part of the mission statement for Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa: enhancing partner nation capacity. One way CJTF-HOA personnel help accomplish this is by providing opportunities for African nations to help themselves.

Researchers have some reassuring news for the legions of coffee drinkers who can't get through the day without a latte, cappuccino, iced mocha, double-shot of espresso or a plain old cuppa joe: That coffee habit may help you live longer.
A new study that tracked the health and coffee consumption of more than 400,000 older adults for nearly 14 years found that java drinkers were less likely to die during the study than their counterparts who eschewed the brew. In fact, men and women who averaged four or five cups of coffee per day had the lowest risk of death, according to a report in Thursday's edition of the New England Journal of Medicine.

Mr. Mwencha was speaking during the official opening of the Grow Africa Forum at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, today 09 May 2012.
He said Africa had seen an increment in investments because of the change the continent was experiencing as regards, investments, peace and security.

KHARTOUM, May 12 (Xinhua) -- The African Union High-Level Implementation Panel on Sudan (AUHIP) has set May 17 as the date for resuming the negotiations between Sudan and South Sudan in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, Khartoum's Al-Sudani daily reported Saturday.
"The African mechanism for mediation between Sudan and South Sudan has set May 17 as the date for resuming the negotiations between the two countries in Addis Ababa," the paper said, adding that head of the AUHIP Thabo Mbeki has been shuttling between capitals in the region to prepare the atmosphere for the negotiations between Khartoum and Juba.

A group of young Ethiopian filmmakers named Gem TV, many of whom were street kids, have won the 2012 Special Award at the One World Media Awards in London.The Special Award, which is sponsored by the Thomson Media Foundation, recognises an outstanding project working on the ground in the developing world where media activity has made a real impact on people's lives.
Standing alongside nominees who included the BBC, ITN and other leading international media organizations, Gem TV Film Director, Adanech Admassu, received the award saying that she hoped it would raise the profile of Gem TV’s work in Ethiopia where they have made films for UNICEF, UNDP, Oxfam, Water Aid and Womankind amongst others.

May 10, 2012 (ADDIS ABABA) – The state-owned Ethiopian Commercial Bank (ECB), said it will open more branches in the main towns of South Sudan including one in Upper Nile State going operational in the next few weeks.
ECB was granted regulatory approval by the South Sudan government in January 2009 and shortly after it opened a branch in Juba under the name CBE-Southern Sudan Ltd. with an initial capital of 15 million US dollars.

In the process of building a series of huge hydroelectric dams and wind farms, Ethiopia's state-run electricity company is gearing up to begin exporting to its neighbours. Miheret Debebe, Chief executive officer, Ethiopian Electrical Power Corporation, spoke with The Africa Report about Ethiopia's energy development.

Miheret Debebe: The capacity is defined in two aspects. One is the megawatt capacity, which is about 2,100MW of installed capacity. The other is the energy potential, which is currently 7,300 MWH, depending on the availability of water.
