736 million Birr pledged by agriculture and manufacturing industries for Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
Addis Ababa, Sunday, 13 November 2011 Investors operating in the sectors of agriculture and manufacturing industries have pledged saving bond purchase of over 736 million Birr for the construction of the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
A recognition program was organized by Ministries of Agriculture and Industry on Saturday evening at Hilton Hotel for investors operating in the sectors of agriculture and manufacturing industries to appreciate their contribution to the ongoing construction of the Renaissance Dam.
On the occasion, it was disclosed that investors working in the agriculture sector have pledged a bond purchase of over 469 million Birr while those operating in the manufacturing industry have promised to purchase saving bond worth over 266 million Birr.
Speaking at the event, Government Communications Affairs Office Head and Secretary of the Council for Coordination of Public Participation for the construction of the Great Renaissance Dam, Bereket Simon said the government has attached due attention to agriculture and industry.
He said the expansion of infrastructure, especially in the area of energy has immense significance for the economic transformation from agriculture to industry.
Bereket also said the government is working hard to address infrastructure demands of the past, the present and the future. The government highly appreciates the contribution of investors in supporting its efforts, he said.
Industry Minister, Mekonnen Manyazewal for his part said the support that the public is extending to the realization of the government’s five year plan is substantial. He also called on investors of the industry sector to strengthen their contribution as their work is energy intensive.
State Minister of Agriculture, Wondyirad Mandefro said the joint organization of the event strengthens the link between agriculture and industry. Investors who support the development endeavors of the government need to be appreciated, he said.
On the occasion, the investors have vowed to continue their contribution to the ongoing construction of the Great Renaissance Dam.(erta.gov)
